Portage Prospect is a public plaza and observation terrace which overlooks Niagara Falls from singularly privileged position. This project provides an opportunity to physically coordinate the many current developments in the area, giving access and address to the Marriot site, the Days Inn expansion, the Casino site, the Rail Corridor reclamation and the rebuilding of the inclined rail. The configuration of the plaza is based on the already established urban context and existing landscape. This primarily pedestrian plaza accepts vehicles at low speeds with traffic designated by bollards and other markings. A translucent canopy is designed over a portion of the plaza for rain, sun and wind protection; the canopy acts also as a visual sign of the plaza.
