KRIS VASSILEV, PhD Arch OAA CAB NCARB MRAIC

Krassimir (Kris) Vassilev is a registered architect with the Ontario Association of Architects in Canada and the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria, and is a member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the Union Internationale des Architectes.

Educated and trained as an architect and urban designer in Europe and in North America, Kris brings a unique cross-cultural perspective combining the European sensitivity to heritage and urban fabric with the progressive Canadian approaches for developing vibrant, inclusive and sustainable communities. He's been a strong promoter of the Canadian multicultural social context and has been searching for relevant architectural expression both in his design and theoretical studies.

Kris graduated from the University of Architecture and Building Engineering in Sofia, Bulgaria and in 1992 obtained his PhD from the Moscow Architectural Institute. Prior to establishing a practice in Sofia in 1994, he worked as a designer at the Transproject Design Institute in Sofia and as a project manager on a construction site in Downtown Moscow. Since 2000 he lives in Toronto where he worked with Diamond Schmitt Architects, MJMA, NORR and others.

Kris has an extensive experience in master planning, design, construction documentation, management and implementation of various project types, and his portfolio includes projects in North America, Europe, Asia, South America and Africa.

His publications include studies on architectural language, as well as on maritime architecture, in particular the characteristics of the zone where water and land meet and interact. Kris is a winner of international architectural and urban design competitions; many of the projects he worked on have been published and exhibited, and have received design awards.
